Today, I went to the Meadowlands with my local Audubon Society for a Great Backyard Bird Count walk. Although I didn't get to see the Northern Shrike, Rough-legged Hawk or Harriers, I got some pretty good birds, including a Bald Eagle. I got 6 lifers and filled up some empty space in my waterfowl list. I later learned that some birders found the shrike, a rough-leg, and a harrier just minutes after I left!
(aw shucks!)
Lifers:
Fox Sparrow
Canvasback (big rafts, at least 150)
Hooded Merganser (my 100th lifer!)
Bufflehead
Northern Shoveler
Gadwall
Also:
White-throated Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
American Robin
American Black Duck
Canada Goose
Mallard
Red-tailed Hawk
American Crow
Northern Mockingbird
Ring-billed Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
